Now i know many who visit this site have no experience whatsoever in sky watching. Even I myself havent haven’t got the chance to do so as some minor financial issues, hahaha. But some of you might wonder how to get started onto the field of sky watching. Well, wonder no more.
The first most important thing you need for sky watching is a telescope (a binocular would do if you just want to watch the moon). Choosing the right telescope is always hard especially if you don’t have much knowledge about the telescopes. You also have to give special attention to the cost and the type of telescope you need (Choose too high and your cost will skyrocket, too low and you aint going to get good view). There are many telescopes available in the market. But if you’re a beginner or have a low budget to start off, this will be your best bet.
Sky-Watcher Reflector SK1149EQ2

If you are looking for largest light gathering capability for the cheapest price, this is the scope. SK1149EQ2 is a 114mm diameter reflector telescope, which means that it gathers 165% more light than a 70mm telescope. It comes with two eyepieces for low and high magnification. For superior stability, it is equips with an equatorial mount, capable of tracking objects across the sky either manually or with additional motor.
This scope will roughly cost around RM1000 in Malaysia including its accesories. So if your budget is higher you may look for higher spec telescope than this one. But for beginners, this scope will do the trick. Optionally you might also want to buy the camera place holder for snapping wonderful images of the sky. The Pro’s may use DSLR to take snaps. But for beginners, you might start off with a normal digital camera. Cameras will be discussed in a different post.
Once you have your telescope and camera in place, its time to become a real astronomer and show the world how wonderful the universe look like. Happy Viewing.
